Guwahati: The Delhi Police on Friday nabbed a man from Assam for offering prayers while standing on the Tricolour flag at at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

As per reports, the incident took place on May 8 when the accused identified as Mohammed Tariq Aziz, had travelled from Dubai by and was about to go Dimapur. At around 5 PM, he spread the Indian National Flag on the floor between boarding gates 1 and 3 and stood upon it to offer namaz.

As a CISF jawan saw him disrespecting the National Flag, he was detained and was later handed over to the Delhi Police.

Later, Delhi Police scanned the CCTV footage over the complaint of CISF and registered an FIR against him under U/S 2 prevention of insult of national honour act 1971.

"Md Tariq Aziz, resident of Assam, came from Dubai by flight 6E24 and had to further go to Dimapur by Indigo flight 6E 5398. At about 0046 to 0050 hrs, he spread the Indian national flag on the floor and by standing on it he was praying namaz, between boarding gate 1 and 3. His activities were found suspicious and undesirable. He has disrespected the national flag," read the police FIR.

Aziz's all travel documents including his passport were confiscated. However, he was later released on bail.
